This Ajrak bed sheet was made using a conventional technique that originated in the Pakistani province of Sindh. To give the Ajrak its distinctive earthy tones, skilled artisans hand-print intricate wooden blocks onto prewashed cotton fabric. The fabric is then dyed using natural colors made from plants and minerals. Indigo blue, madder red/Aliazar, and black made from iron rust are the three colors that are used most frequently. Each block needs to be exactly aligned to produce a symmetrical design, which calls for accuracy and knowledge during the printing process. The complicated motifs and borders that make up the Ajrak pattern are constructed by repeating this technique using various blocks. After printing is finished, the fabric is allowed to dry in the sun so that the natural pigments can allow colors to intensify.
Once the fabric has dried, it is cleaned to get rid of any extra dye and show the brilliant Ajrak pattern. Repeated washings also improve the fabric’s durability and colorfastness. This time-consuming method yields colorful, symmetrical patterns that highlight the local culture.

Care Instructions:
To ensure proper care for your textile, it is advised to wash it with cool water using a gentle machine or hand wash method. To safeguard the integrity of the natural dyes, use a pH-neutral liquid detergent. Additionally, it is recommended to wash the textile with similar colors to prevent any potential damage. Hang the textile to dry immediately in a shaded area or tumble dry it on medium heat. For optimal results, it is suggested to use mild liquid detergents with a pH no higher than 7, such as Ecos, Eucalan, Tru Earth (to be dissolved fully in water before adding fabric), or similar products.
Color may rub off during wash, we recommend washing separately.
